Kitchen is the place where you want to be garbage-smell free.

But sometimes you can’t help it since you have many things in the kitchen which could produce unpleasant smells. The dishwasher is one of them.

Though dishwasher helps you clean the dishes, this appliance needs extra cleaning care if it starts to get stinky. You can apply these seven ways to remove the odor.

HOW TO GET RID OF SMELL IN DISHWASHER

1. Clean the Filter

Drain filter is more likely to be the source of smell than other parts of the dishwasher. The grime could have accumulated insides, especially after a long time without cleaning, and in a moist temperature, this could produce musty odors.

Remove the bottom rack then take out the filter. Wash it using soap and hot water. Use bottle brush if needed because some filters are cylindrical.

You could use a brush and soap to remove the grime. When finished, you could scrub the dishwasher racks as well to make sure that all the inside parts are clean and grime-free.

3. Place White Vinegar

To remove the smell, white vinegar could be used. Run an empty dishwasher with a cup of white distilled vinegar.

Put the cup on the top rack of the dishwasher and run it on the longest running cycle. The vinegar will spead over inside the dishwasher and the acid in vinegar will absorb the smell.

4. Sprinkle Baking Soda

Following the vinegar, baking soda is widely used for cleaning. This ingredient is easy to find and safe to use. To remove the smell, you could sprinkle a cup of baking soda over the bottom of the dishwasher.

Run the dishwasher on the shortest cycle. To remove the baking soda, use hot water. Using baking soda regularly once a month will also be effective to remove the odors inside the dishwasher.

5. Use Bacteria-Killing Detergents

Some detergents, although they attract you with the scents that you prefer, like fruits or flowers scents, they don’t remove the grime well. You should choose a detergent with bacteria-killing bleach. Such detergent could maintain a clean dishwasher.

6. Examine the Dishwasher

Sometimes, the problem which causes the appliances not work well may result in bad odors. You need to check the manual of your dishwasher to know the possible problems.

Obstruction in the drain hose is one of them. Musty smell could also come from the bent or restricted hose because there will be limited flow of water. Dirty water could stick there and becomes the source of smell.
