Microwave simplifies many things as it is convenient and easy to use.

But it could be frustrating if you have something like popcorn, meat, or yellow butter burnt in it. Besides the stain, the strong burnt smell could linger and need extra care.

Yet, there are many household ingredients  around you that could help get rid of the odor.

HOW TO REMOVE BURNT SMELL FROM MICROWAVE

1. Vinegar

Prepare ½ cup water and 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Mix the water and the vinegar, then microwave it for at least 5 minutes.

To maximize the result, leave it with the door shut for 30 minutes to an hour. Vinegar will absorb the odor and you may clean the microwave with soap and water after that.

2. Baking soda

As expected, you can always rely on baking soda. You can either microwave the mixture of water and five tablespoons of baking soda for at least 5 minutes or open the box of baking soda and leave it in you microwave without heating it overnight. Then you can wipe and clean the insides with soap and water.

3. Lemon or orange

Strong scent of lemon and orange will absorbs the burnt smell well. To use it, you need five tablespoons of lemon or orange juice and water.

Pour the mixture in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it for at least 5 minutes. Let the bowl inside the microwave for half an hour, or if it’s possible, leave it for 12 hours. Choose the one which is doable for you.

4. Coffee Grounds

If you like the smell of coffee, you can use coffee grounds to dissipate the burnt smell. Put the coffee grounds from your morning coffee in the microwave while you are at work.

If your microwave needs stronger scent, you may heat two tablespoons of coffee grounds with a little water in a cup for about three minutes.

5. Cinnamon

If the coffee grounds don’t work, you may try to use cinnamon. It also smells and works great with vanilla extract. All you need to do is to microwave few tablespoons of cinnamon with a half cup of water for about three minutes. If you have time, leave it in the microwave overnight. The scents of cinnamon and vanilla will take over the burnt smell.

6. Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover

Some people use acetone-free nail polish remove not only to clean the remaining stains, but also to get rid of the smell.

Of course the smell of the nail-polish remover will be too strong, but relatively easier to remove than the burnt smell. You can wipe the inside of the microwave using soap and vinegar water after the stains are removed.

You may choose one of the ingredients above or combine them based on your preference. If one doesn’t work, better you try another one or two. Make sure you do the steps correctly and carefully.



One burnt smell is enough to make your kitchen or even your entire house smells bad and you don’t want to burn another when you try to get rid off the previous one.
