Phase 1: Removing the Slime from the Carpet

Before we can clean the entire thing, we need to remove the slime from the carpet first of course. It makes cleaning a lot easier. You can remove the slime by doing the following steps:

Step 1:

When it happens, kids often leave or drop a pretty big blob of slime. The first step you need to make is to remove the blob. You can use a spoon if it is still fresh. If it is already there for some times, it may get hard.



In this case, you need sharper tool. It is recommended to use a knife to remove the slime. You need to do it slowly because you don’t want to scratch the carpet. Cut the slime close from the outside to the inside.

You don’t have to remove them all at once. Remove as much as you can and continue until you can remove them all.

Step 2:

Of course, you will still find remaining slime on your carpet. The best way to remove the slime is to wait until it gets dry. So leave it there for a while. Then, touch the slime to make sure it is dry. When it is, you should consider using the vacuum to remove the remaining slime.

It is important to wait until the slime is dry before vacuuming it because wet slime can clog your vacuum cleaner.

Step 3:

The next step is to clean it with some products. In this step, you are free to choose your own product to use. Please consider using products that are safe for your carpet and kids as well.




There are several possible product options. It includes WD-40, citrus solvent, goo remover, rubbing alcohol, and vinegar. Several people will prefer on more natural solution like vinegar but as long as your carpet is fine with it, you can use the other solutions too.

Phase 2: Handling the Stain

Now, we already remove the slime from your carpet. The next thing to deal with is the stain. Sometimes, it is tough to remove the stain. However, slime is made with safe materials, and it tends to be easier to clean the stain. Here are several effective steps you can follow to remove it.

Step 1:

The first step to do is to apply the cleaning solution you already choose. If you choose WD-40, distilled white vinegar, or rubbing alcohol, you can directly spray or pour it on to your carpet. It won’t hurt your carpet back. However, if you don’t want to pour too much, you should consider transferring them into a spray bottle and spray it to the carpet instead.

Spraying the solution is highly recommended as you can control more and you can cover or saturate the entire areas in the best possible way.



However, you need to pay more attention if you decide to use goo remover or citrus solvent. Because of the character, you need to prevent them from soaking your carpet. It is because they can dissolve your carpet back. If you decide to use these solutions, please first pour it to a towel. Then, dab the towel on the slime and stain.

Step 2:

When you are done applying the solution, you should leave it for at least 10 to 15 minutes or as needed or suggested on the instructions.

You are advised not to skip this step. Leaving the solution to soak in is beneficial as it softens the dried slime remained, and it penetrates the carpet fiber. In the end, it helps in cleaning the stain better.

Step 3:

When the solution is well soaked in, you can start cleaning the stain. Take an old towel, and wipe the area using the towel. You shouldn’t need to give it a pressure or to make too much effort to clean it. Wipe like usual and the stain will be well removed.

In case the stain still remains a little, repeat this phase until the stain is well cleaned.

Step 4:

Now, we need to rinse the area. Prepare a small bucket of hot water and clean towel. Put the towel into the hot water and drain the remaining water. Next, blot the area with the towel. You shouldn’t scrub or wipe it to make sure the remaining stain and slime don’t spread.

Step 5:

This entire phase can add new problems which is smell. To prevent your carpet from smelling, you should immediately dry the blotted area. Take another dry and clean towel and press it on the area. It allows the towel to absorb the remaining water on the carpet. Press it for a little while and repeat until the carpet gets pretty dry.

Additional Tips

There are several other tips that will be helpful for the cleaning processes.

  • Clean the slime as soon as possible before it gets dry and too sticky. It will be easier to clean on this stage and it is less destructive than the dry one when you clean it.
  • Never use brush and scrap your carpet. It will only ruin the carpet, not to mention spreading the slime and make the entire cleaning processes even more difficult.
  • Use only solutions that fit well for your carpet material. It prevents you from damaging the carpet while cleaning.

In sum, slime is easy to clean when it drops on your carpet. Of course, it takes several steps but you don’t need to call a professional to clean it. Don’t get upset. Those steps above should help you effectively.
